What the rules say
Gas appliances must be kept in a safe condition, and HSE's advice is to follow the manufacturer, which usually means an annual service. Oil-fired systems are not covered by the gas safety check at all, so an annual OFTEC service is the key evidence they are safe.
What to do
- Book the service alongside the gas safety check to save a call-out.
- For oil, also check the tank and pipework for leaks and damage.
- Record it here and upload the service sheet.
