What the rules say
In small properties the GOV.UK guide says rechargeable torches that light up automatically in a power cut, one per bedroom with a sign, may be acceptable. Bigger properties and those with complex escape routes usually need fixed emergency lighting.
What to do
- Decide what is needed in your fire risk assessment.
- For fixed systems, do the monthly flick test and book the annual full-duration test.
