What the rules say
The Immigration (Hotel Records) Order 1972 applies to anywhere people sleep in accommodation provided for reward. Every guest aged 16 or over must give their full name and nationality. Guests who aren't British, Irish or Commonwealth citizens must also give their passport number and place of issue, and their next address if known. Since Brexit this includes EU guests.
What to do
- Collect the details at booking or check-in.
- Keep them securely for at least 12 months.
- Make them available to the police if asked.
